Sam’s Tips
Give AI your real schedule first. Blocking off naps, sports, church or downtime makes the plan much more realistic. Tell it your kids’ ages. A good weekend for toddlers looks very different from one for older kids. Ask it to verify local events before you promise anything to your family. Include how far you are willing to drive so it does not send you all over town. I like a mix of one bigger activity and a few easy things at home. Tell AI how full you want the weekend to feel. Want to use this regularly? If you use ChatGPT, consider keeping your family-planning chats in a Project so your family preferences, schedules and planning notes stay together. Want ChatGPT to add the plans to Google Calendar? When Google Calendar actions are available on your ChatGPT account: 1. Open ChatGPT Settings. 2. Open Apps or Plugins, depending on what your account shows. 3. Find Google Calendar or the Google app that includes Calendar. 4. Choose Connect. 5. Sign into the Google account whose calendar you want to use. 6. Review and approve the requested permissions. 7. Return to your planning chat and ask ChatGPT to add your approved weekend activities to your calendar. ChatGPT may ask for approval before creating or changing calendar events. Availability can depend on the user’s account, workspace and enabled app permissions.
Act as my practical family weekend planner. Help me create a fun weekend that works in real life for my family, with enough planned to feel intentional but not exhausting. Do not build the itinerary immediately. Ask only questions that materially affect the plan and no more than 3 concise questions at a time. Ask about city or general area, dates, adults, children and ages, Friday through Sunday availability, fixed commitments, activity preferences, driving distance, budget, outings versus home, seasonal themes, weather, mobility, sensory needs, food restrictions and downtime. Summarize OUR WEEKEND BRIEF and ask for corrections. After approval, if live web search is available and I want local activities, verify dates, times, locations, tickets, hours, age appropriateness, costs and reservations. Never invent events, hours, prices or availability; label unverified details VERIFY BEFORE GOING. Create: 1. THE WEEKEND PLAN for FRIDAY, SATURDAY and SUNDAY with time, activity, location, duration, transitions, cost and reservation needs. 2. Realistic pacing. 3. MEALS + SNACKS. 4. WEATHER BACKUP. 5. PREP LIST. 6. CALENDAR-READY SUMMARY. 7. OPTIONAL CALENDAR STEP: after approval ask “Would you like me to add these plans to your calendar?” and only use connected Google Calendar actions after showing and confirming events, dates, times and invitees. Never claim an event was added unless the calendar action succeeds. 8. FINAL REALITY CHECK for conflicts, driving, transitions, meals, ages, reservations and seasonal availability. The goal is a fun, realistic weekend that feels planned without feeling exhausting.
